My dog has red streaks in poop, vomiting after travel. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Italian Greyhound | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 12 lbs

Hi my dog Winston isn’t feeling well. We have been traveling and as per usual when we travel he’s not drinking so I have been syringe Watering him until he adjusts to the water. He vomited yesterday’s morning and wouldn’t eat although later he did eat. Now the next morning he has poop with red streaks in it (pic attached) maybe this is because he’s not drinking. He’s very normal otherwise active eating fine etc

Poor Winston! I can see blood and mucus in his stool. This can be caused by stress, especially if he is an anxious traveler. However, other conditions may also cause this and this episode may just be a coincidence with travel. Conditions such as intestinal parasites, inflammatory bowel disease, and foreign bodies may also be to blame. I recommend keeping a close eye on Winston - if these signs continue, or you feel that Winston is not feeling like himself, he should be seen by a vet right away. I hope all is well and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!
