My dog has diarrhea, is lethargic, and now limping after vet visit.

Hey I was really worried about my yellow lab ! He’s been off his food for around 4 days now he drinks water, his stools are very dark and loose..... he’s abit lethargic and cries a lot we’ve taken to our local vet and they’ve said it’s just something he’s eaten so they’ve given us antibiotics and electrolyte for dogs...... it’s really worrying as he is never like this normally, 2 days ago he came back from the vet and went outside to wee and as soon as he got up from a wee he kinda started limp

Poor Harley does sound quite sick at the moment! It is concerning that he started to limp after taking a wee, and he could have injured, torn, or strained a ligament. If he's still limping now, two days after the initial time you saw him limp, I would take him back into the vet today. The vet can diagnose what is causing the limp and how best to treat it. In addition, the vet can follow up on how he is doing after having such bad diarrhea. Good luck, I hope he feels better soon!

Harley is so cute! It could be that he injured himself while outside, and he's clearly in pain at the moment. I recommend resting him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. If over the next 48 hours you are very concerned about his level of pain (i.e. he's still refusing to put any weight on his leg), it's absolutely fine to take him into a vet sooner. Poor Bear! The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including eating something he shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites or even organ disease. If the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check him for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible. Regarding the limping, if he will not use the leg at all, he needs to be examined by the veterinarian. Oh no! It sounds like Lela is painful on her right hind leg and needs to be evaluated for an injury or wound. The vomiting and diarrhea could be related to what is going on with her leg or could be caused by something else. I would recommend you take her in to your vet to be evaluated. She may need anti-inflammatories or pain medication for her leg as well as anti-nausea medication and diarrhea medication for her intestinal tract. With vomiting and diarrhea I also get very concerned about dehydration, so she may need some fluid treatment as well to get her feeling better. Good luck! It’s been a rough few day for Max! It’s not unusual after diarrhea to have a few days without a bowel movement. The limping is concerning. I would recommend that he be evaluated by a veterinarian. They can look for signs of trauma/ fracture, infection, embedded foreign object etc.. They may prescribe some dog safe pain medication as well. Good luck and I hope he is back to normal soon.

If your dog does not start showing improvement after 48 hours of being on the medication and/or if his symptoms persist, then you should take him back to your veterinarian for a recheck. He may need additional diagnostics like blood work, X-rays, and/or a parvo test (depending on his vaccination status). He may also need supportive care like nausea medication and fluid therapy. hello. My dog woke up at 5am with diarrhea and his back leg was limp.
These symptoms don't easily fit the same picture, so I am not quite sure what is going on. I would recommend that you have Winston evaluated by a vet. A thorough physical and neurologic exam will be helpful in determine what is causing the limp and how the diarrhea plays into everything.

My dog is limping with his back left leg up.he is under the couch he eats and drinks but growls when I try to get him to come out
Poor Harley! If he's holding the leg up completely, and hiding under the couch and growling at you, it sounds like he's in quite a bit of pain. Because of this, it would be best to take him to an emergency clinic today to be seen, if you can. He may have a broken bone in his leg, or a serious injury such as a torn cruciate ligament in his knee. Your veterinarian can do a complete orthopedic exam and may also take x-rays if needed to determine what's wrong. If you aren't able to go to an emergency clinic today, then I would definitely take him in to see your regular vet first thing tomorrow morning. In the meantime, let him rest and restrict his activity as much as possible to try and avoid making the injury worse.

Hi there! Sorry to hear that Harley is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Harley evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start her on medications to make her feel better. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your girl!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Harley! Look closely at Harley's eyes...are they moving quickly side to side or rolling? If they are then he could be having a vestibular event. The most common cause is a middle ear infection (under the ear drum) that causes inflammation of the peripheral nerve that control balance. Other causes could be more serious: stroke, seizure, brain tumor, metabolic issues or bleeding that is causing weakness. Harley should see your Vet ASAP this morning for an exam. It is possible Harley may have suffered a seizure or even a head injury. I strongly recommend you video his behavior at home and arrange a full health check with your vet to identify any underlying illness or injury which may have contributed to these signs
