My cat has runny poop, but it's not diarrhea. What should I do?

She is likely experiencing dietary indiscretion from eating the treats. You can stop giving the treats to see if her runny stools improve. This could be due to the diet and it could also be due to intestinal parasites. I would recommend switching food to a kitten food and see if that helps. It could be the food transition that is causing the diarrhea. I can give you a home remedy for Penny to see if that helps. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, she refuses to eat the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

If you did a quick switch from the old to the new food this could definitely cause diarrhea, especially if no other symptoms are present. You can try going back to the old food until the stools form again and doing a slow transition to the new diet over a week. If the diarrhea occurs again this is likely not a good food for Olaf. Some animals with diet related diarrhea may benefit from a probiotic. A few commonly used in pets are fortiflora and proviable. Certainly if the symptoms do not get better, get worse, or are accompanied by blood in the stool and/or a decreased appetite/vomiting/lethargy a visit to your veterinarian is recommended. Hi and thanks for your question! Runny stools can have many causes- stress, parasitic infection, bacterial infection, virtual infection, or dietary indiscretion. The poop outside of the litter box tells me he may have had some discomfort while defecating and ended up defecating outside the box (associating box with painful experience). You may try adding plain canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) to his food to help firm up his stool for a few days. If he is still having this issue, you may want to take Burger in to see his veterinarian so they can run a fecal test and check for parasites and/or bacterial infection. I hope this helps! I recommend you stick with canned food. That way your kitty does not get so much carbohydrate and also ingests more moisture. Offer him wet food in addition to the kitten food and then eventually feed the wet food only. I find cats have less problems with canned food (over their life time) than with dry food. It may also be a good idea to take a fresh stool sample to your veterinarian for a fecal exam to see whether your kitty is suffering from intestinal parasites such as worms and giardia.

These signs could be compatible with a colitis, which is an inflammation of the last part of the colon, usually related to dietary indiscretion. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Sometimes changing the diet helps or adding more fiber to the diet as well can help firm up the stool if there are no underlying causes of soft stool such as an infectious cause like parasites. You can try and add a tablespoon of regular canned pumpkin puree (not the pie filling) to her food to see if that helps firm it up. I would also recommend a fecal test with her veterinarian.
