Why is my dog suddenly pooping inside the house after being uncrated?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 1 year old | 40 lbs

We kept our dog crated before. Now for over 2 months we didn't crate him. He was doing fine but for the past 10days he's been popping in unwanted places around the house. If I try crating him again he is whining. Before I had to take him out only twice. But for the past 10days he's been popping in really new place where he shouldn't be. But we feed him the usual food. No change in that. And there's no loose stools too. I gave him deworming but still no use. What is wrong?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He may be having a lapse in house training. I would start taking him out more again and if he doesn't poop when he is supposed to or normally does then he is crated and you try again 20 mins later. All rooms should be blocked and he shouldn't be allowed to sneak off. Use baby gates and close all doors. He should be leashed to an adult when out. At night and when you are out he should be crated. Once there are no poop accidents for 3 months he can have access to the house again. I hope this helps!
