My rabbit has seizures, chews air, and won't eat. What's wrong?

Usually these signs are compatible with a neurological disease caused by a parasite called E.cuniculi. Once a rabbit has E.cuniculi it passes on the infection through spores in its urine. Other rabbits pick up the disease by eating these spores in urine-contaminated food and water. Unborn kits — baby rabbits — may also be infected during pregnancy. 50mg/kg of panacur once daily for a month is the standard treatment but once signs are evident the prognosis is guarded to poor despite the treatment. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. When rabbits get sick they usually go downhill very quickly. Intestinal infection ( or dysbiosis) is a common occurrence . This usually causes a sudden loss of appetite and lethargy. Rabbits usually pass away very quickly when this happens. IT could be a respiratory infection, gut stasis, gastrointestinal infection or some other type of infection. it could also be a teeth problem but becasue it affects all of the it is unlikely. basically they should be put on antibiotics, Pramin and critical care syringe feeding. the vet can provide you all these.

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. It sounds like Mocha might be having seizures. This can occur due to many different causes including infections, inflammation, tumors, and other causes. If Mocha is eating, drinking, pooping and peeing normally right now, you can monitor Mocha for now. I would recommend however to have Mocha seen by a rabbit veterinarian as soon as you are able to get an appointment. Whatever is the cause of it, these signs are quite severe in rabbits and should be a reason for an immediate check up. Inappetence can always lead to acute deterioration of clinical condition especially if gastrointestinal motion is slower than normal and feces are not produced. Carefully check his teeth to see if they are overgrown or misaligned. If his front teeth are fine, have him examined by your veterinarian to check his cheek teeth. These teeth need regular trimming to prevent sharp points from developing. These points can cause discomfort and may affect appetite.
