My mouse won't take Metacam. How can I give her the medicine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 8 months old

My mouse was prescribed Metacam and lately it has been hard to give her. She only has one or two doses left. Can I put it into a Gerber Puff, a safe baby cereal treat she loves, or will this prevent her from getting the right dose? I worry most of it is getting on my hands or her face rather than her mouth! She was also on Baytril but has since finished it if that changes anything. Attached is a picture of the injury she's recovering from.

Poor Graham! It looks like the skin condition was very severe, and requires pain medication. Placing the metacam in a treat that you are sure will be consumed, is a good idea. I also recommend trimming Graham's nails so that she cannot cause further trauma by scratching, and applying a small amount of SSD (silver sulfadiazene) ointment to the wounds to promote healing. I hope this helps and that all is well!
