My cockatiel is sneezing with slimy tongue discharge and a raspy voice

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatiel | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 14 days old

Recently I bought a baby cockatiel who had a red eye. I was told by the breeder it was an injury until a day or two, I noticed she had been sneezing alot and had a distressed voice box. Later, I knew she had a respiratory infection. However, I have been noticing for the past 2 days that, Onyx has been having these white-yellowish slimey liquid stuck at the edge of her tongue and drops them to my finger and sneezes alot and has a distressed voice. However she plays around and is energetic.

This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or eventually to a chronic rhinitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.
