My old dog ate a lot of sweets and is throwing up. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dalmatian | Female | spayed | 24 lbs

Last night my dog ate a giant tub of sweets! I'm worrying a lot as she's pretty old and keeps throwing up. She keeps wining and her stomach is making some strange noises. Some times she goes for massive gulps of water. Non of the sweets had wrappers on but there was a LOT of them and I worrying! I will link a picture of the tub and it's contents as o have other one. Help!

If none of them contains xylitol, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. Vomiting and diarrhoea (more likely) can occur in the next 24-36hours as a result of the intoxication, but no other signs should be expected. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if you notice persistent vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy or inappetence.
