Can I feed my 4-month-old puppy rice and chicken for diarrhea?

have a new puppy, 4 months old. she has hook worm, had 1st dosage of med. loves to eat everything outside, including poop. now has runny stool. eating merrick's food. thinking of giving rice and chicken to get rid of runny stool. is this ok? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 22 days old | 19 lbs

Poor Daisy. Puppies can certainly have sensitive stomachs. If puppies are eating and drinking normally, we will often recommend a bland easily digested diet consisting of ½ cooked white rice and ½ cooked white meat chicken (boiled without any skin or bones). If she does well with a bland diet and her diarrhea resolves, then you can slowly transition back to her normal diet over a few days. Diarrhea that continues for more than a few days, or is associated with blood in the stool, vomiting, lethargy or a poor appetite is a reason for a visit to your veterinarian. There are anti-diarrheal medications that your veterinarian can prescribe if needed as well as probiotics to help resolve the diarrhea.
