What dog food is best for my Boston Terrier puppy and adult Chihuahua?

What is the best dog food brand to give to my 11 month old Boston terrier and my 1 yr old chihuahua???

Great question! Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. If you are looking for a supermarket brand food, Purina would be my recommendation. Because Sophie is 11 months old, she will still need a puppy formulated food until she is a year old. Once she turns one year old, she can go on an adult dog food like your chihuahua. I would recommend a food intended for small breed dogs. The three brands I prefer when choosing a food are Hill’s, Royal Canin, and Purina. I think any of these would be a good choice. Additionally, if you are unsure of the age and history of your dog I would recommend taking her in to be examined by your veterinarian. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Daisy. Congratulations! You just be so excited to being her home. I would start by feeding her the food that her breeder is currently using. Coming to new home is stressful for a puppy. This combined with a diet cha he can cause diarrhea. Once she has had a few days to settle in, you can gradually transition her to a new diet. You will want to take at least 7 days of mixing the old and new diets. Make the transition gradual for her. I do not recommend feeding a grain free diet. They are very trendy, but there is new research that they may be linked to heart disease. You will want a puppy food from large company that is able to employ veterinary nutritionists on staff and do feeding trials for their diets on live dogs. Purina ProPlan, Royal Canin and Hills are all good choices. I hope this information helps!

Sarah is a smallish lab mix I was getting ready to turn one in what two weeks and I was wondering what you guys recommend for her Adult food however you eventually we want if at all possible both of our Chiweenie puppies and her on the same food one
Depending on how big the Chiweenie is as an adult, you could likely use the same food for both dogs after they are each 1 year old. Since Sara is only 35lbs, you don’t need to give her a large breed dog food. The other pup is likely not extra small (under 10lbs) so it would be fine to eat a regular food as well. Stick with any of the high quality brands who do not have recall issues frequently. Brands who have frequent recalls are concerning for quality issues. I recommend Royal Canin, Iams, Purina Pro Plan, and Nutro. Just get the normal, adult dog food. Remember to transition to the new diet over 5-7 days. In general, grain free food is not recommended due to a potential link with heart disease. I recommend to feed a brand like Royal Canin Chihuahua Puppy (it's ok that he is a mixed breed) or their regular small breed puppy formula. Purina ProPlan also carries small breed puppy diets. I recommend a small breed diet and to stick with one of the higher quality brands. I like Royal Canin because the diets have high quality, easy to digest protein and contain an excellent fiber blend. Most pets on this diet will have great stool quality and minimal amounts of stool because there's not a lot of filler. They actually carry a line for Chihuahuas. I also like Purina Pro Plan. Coco should eat twice a day and should eat puppy food until he is 1 year old. I hope this helps.

Personally, I really like Royal Canin's line of puppy foods - they even have a breed-specific diet for Chihuahuas :) Other good options would include Purina Pro Plan and Hills Science Diet. Whatever brand you choose, make sure to feed Peaches the puppy version the entire time that she's nursing, since she will need the extra calories to make milk for the puppies.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! In the US we recommend Purina, Royal Canin, Hills/Science Diet, or Iams brands. I would choose a puppy formula in small bite size for Kylie. Make sure to mix her old food in with the new food over a couple of days so you don’t upset her tummy. Also, don’t change her food up too often so she can get used to the new diet. Kisses to Kylie!

Commercial diet of good quality (Royal Canin or Hill's puppy food) is the best option up to twelve months of age. Then you can switch to adult food. Feed her twice daily. As treats it would be ideal to use vegetables like carrots for example. These would be very healthy and not fat at all.
