Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is crucial to ensure that they eat well right before a dose of insulin. Dogs who are given insulin once daily should be fed right before the insulin dose and then again about 8 hours later. For dogs who are given insulin twice daily, should be given insulin right after a meal and their food should be divided in two portions that are given with the insulin.
