My dog is vomiting. Can I give Pedialyte to prevent dehydration?

Camille is sick throwing up and my vet is closed and im disabled and cant afford emergency vet. My question is can i give her baby unflavored pedialyte to help keep her from dehyfrating until i can get her to vet monday?

Yes, that is fine to give to her in small amounts at a time, but definitely get into a vet as soon as possible. I would see if you can borrow money from family and friends, and I can give you some resources that may help you afford an ER vet. You can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Pedialyte can be given to help with hydration. However, I am worried that if this continues, it may be best to have her evaluated by a veterinarian as she can easily get dehydrated. Vomiting and lethargy can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. If this continues, I recommend that you have Peggy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start her on medications to make her feel better. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Can i give my puppy Pedialyte because he vomited alot yesterday?
Hi there and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! Yes, you can give Pedialyte (make sure it is unflavored). You may try offering a small amount (1/8 of a cup) several times daily. Vomiting can be rapidly dehydrating in young small puppies, so it can be hard to correct dehydration alone with oral liquids. If Thanos keeps vomiting, he really should see his veterinarian. Hi there. I'm so sorry to hear about Sadie's troubles. You can offer Sadie some pedialyte - that won't hurt anything. However, it may not help as much as something like fluids under the skin or intravenous fluids that she can get at the vet office, because she may just throw up the pedialyte. Dogs that are vomiting and/or have diarrhea can be at risk for becoming dehydrated, sometimes even if they're drinking. There is always a certain amount of fluid loss in the vomit and/or diarrhea that cannot be replaced with simply drinking water. There can be many reasons a 7 month old dog is vomiting too, so I will briefly discuss those, and then ask that you keep an eye on Sadie. If she isn't improving in the next 12 hours or so, she should see her veterinarian. Parovirus is a gastrointestinal virus that unvaccinated puppies can acquire. Should i administer pedyolight immediately after vomiting with a puppy that has parvo?
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. I would refrain from giving pedialyte immediately after Crisco vomits. I would wait until he is not vomiting for a few hours and then offer him the pedialyte. Ideally, Parvo should be managed from a hospital setting as the most appropriate treatment is IV fluids. If you are able to, I would recommend talking to your veterinarian about at home treatments. Your vet can supply you with medications and fluids to help replenish electrolytes. Canine viyo recuperation is a liquid supplement that I recommend using for replenishing electrolytes. I hope this helps! I actually would recommend hospitalizing Hunter at a 24 hour emergency hospital. Especially if he cannot keep anything down. The best course of action is symptomatic care and IV fluids to keep Hunter hydrated. Even if giving pedialyte, if he is vomiting he isn't going to be getting enough fluids to help. I would also be concerned the more you give orally the more you he may vomit. I hope Hunter feels better soon and thank you for using Boop by Petco.

My dog has been vomiting for about 3 days, diarrhea, and is lethargic. I don't know what's wrong with her and I can't afford to take her to a vet.
This is a tough situation because she is likely suffering from some degree of dehydration on top of any underlying condition. Try withholding food for 12-24 hours. Allow or syringe feed small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet ( boiled boneless / skinless chicken and plain white rice) in small, frequent amounts. Serve warm or mix in a teaspoon or two of baby food to stimulate the appetite. If the vomiting stops, continue feeding until the stool is normal then transition slowly to the regular diet. If the vomiting or diarrhea don't stop, you will need to see a veterinarian. Contact your local animal shelter and ask about low cost clinics. Consider a financing option such as CareCredit.

This sounds like his condition should be investigated sooner rather than later. He could have ingested something toxic, swallowed something that is causing an obstruction and as such a small dog, continued vomiting can cause low blood sugar and/or electrolyte imbalance that can affect his heart function. If you are in financial difficulty, there are ways of still getting your pet treated by a veterinarian. Call your vet and tell them your situation. They may have a way to get your dog seen now and pay them when you are able. Ask if they take Care Credit and apply online. This is a credit card specifically for medical, dental, and veterinary expenses. This one has helped me care for my pets when they needed it and I didn't have the cash available at the time.
