Why is my cat straining to poop, acting weird, and licking herself?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 years and 7 months old | 10 lbs

Hi, my cat is trying to defecate many times. She did it 3 times today but has been lowering her behind like she was ready to, like maybe 15 times. She has been licking down here a whole lot. She is acting very weird, meowing for no reason, has her tail lowered, and is repeadtly going in the same places like the bathroom and bedroom in the same spot. We're gonna bring her to the vet when it opens, but in the meantime I need someone to tell me what might be up with her.

It could be that Angel is suffering from diarrhea, which would cause her to act like she has to pass feces multiple times without passing anything. It could also be that she is suffering from constipation, and is having trouble passing feces. You are doing the right thing by taking her into the vet, who can diagnose what is causing her symptoms so she can be treated. Diarrhea can lead to dehydration, while constipation can be caused by dehydration, so I would feed her wet food and add water to it in order to get more moisture into her system. Good luck, I hope this helps!
