My rescue dog has saggy teats from breeding. What's the best action?

From what I can see in the photos it looks like normal teats of a dog that has multiple litters. That being said, when they get cancers in the mammary glands they are up next to the body so without feeling her I cannot tell you if there are any tumors present. I suggest you have her examined by a vet before you adopt her. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Bonnie needs to see a vet for this swollen mammary gland. It is concerning that it has been swollen for three years now. I'm not sure if she is spayed or not, but this swelling could be a mammary tumor. In unspayed dogs, they have a 25% chance of developing mammary tumors, 50% of which are malignant. It could also be a cyst, and she scratched it open leading to the fluid leakage. Even if she is spayed, it's not normal to have such a huge swelling for so long, and it really needs to be diagnosed by a vet to it can be treated. I would take her into the vet first thing tomorrow. Mammary masses in intact dogs can be due to a variety of reasons, including hyperplasia (an overgrowth of mammary tissue), a fatty deposit, or a cancer, among others. Ideally it should be removed and tested to know what it is, so that any treatment she may need could be determined. I would recommend discussing with your regular veterinarian what your options are. Yes, Sadie's mammary glands will eventually return back to a normal size, although it may take several months. If you notice any swelling, discharge, or masses in the area of her mammary glands, please have her seen by a veterinarian, as she may have an infection. You can put an e-collar (cone) on her for the next week or two to help prevent her from licking at the area.

The loose skin may be a result of the mild swelling after her spay resolving and the hard spot could be scar tissue if it's near her incision site. It might be a good idea to have your vet check it to be safe.

If Nyia has had a recent heat cycle, this can cause the mammary tissue to swell and it should go away. Intact females can also have problems with false pregnancies and this too will result in swollen teats and will generally reaolve. The teats can get infected and signs include swelling, heat, discomfort, discoloration and discharge. If any of those signs are seen, she should see the veterinarian. Getting her spayed will stop issues with swollen teats and false pregnancy. Dogs can get breast cancer and dogs that are spayed under the age of 2.5 years old have less cancer rates than those who are not spayed. Once a dog has puppies, their mammary glands and nipples do not go back to how they looked before they had puppies. The more litters they have the larger the tissue gets and the more it appears to hang down. Is she still nursing the puppies? They usually start to wean around 5 weeks of age. If Diva is still nursing puppies, there is a good chance her mammary tissue will get smaller once the puppies have weaned off. There is nothing that you need to do to help her body return to normal - this may be her new normal!

To be safe, I would recommend you take her into your vet to make sure that her abdomen palpated (feels) normal, she does not have a temperature and that she is otherwise normal. Sometimes non-spayed females can get something called a pyometra (pus in the uterus) that can cause a tense stomach, vaginal swelling and discharge, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea etc. This can become a surgical emergency therefore, if Pomi is showing any of these signs, I would take her in sooner rather than later.

Much like puberty in humans, with the beginnings of such hormonal fluxes, breast enlargement as well as vulvar are common and may be permanent. Certain types of infections, called pyometras, are also a possibility-if your pup is lethargic, not eating or drinking, or has purulent discharge she should see a vet immediately.
