My dog's drooling excessively. Is it his broken tooth or GI issues?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 85 lbs

My dog Bear has been excessively drooling since yesterday. He has a broken canine but we were told it was fine. I have the flu if that's pertinent. He also has been suffering from gastrointestinal issues that we think is a food allergy. What could be causing the sudden excessive drooling?

Bear is precious! Excessive drooling, or hyper salivation, can be caused by nausea, pain (which may occur if there is pulp exposure of the broken canine), or trouble swallowing (which can be caused by nerve damage or foreign bodies). Flu cannot be transmitted from people to dogs, so you are not contagious to Bear. I recommend keeping a close eye on him - if he continues drooling, has trouble breathing, or loses his appetite, he should be seen by a vet.
