Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 years and 9 months old | 5.5 lbs
Hi, my cat vomits - sometimes twice per day - often with hairballs. I'm brushing her as often as possible. I got her as a rescue cat and she's always been a little pukey but more recently it's a bit more often. I've noticed that if she has cat food pouches of any variety she definitely vomits. If I give her meat or fish - she doesn't. I've had to start separating my other cats regular cat food from her so that she doesn't eat it. She's otherwise well, alert and no weight loss. What could it be?

First of all, I would get her an examination with your veterinarian, just to make sure there isn't an underlying medical condition that is causing her to vomit. If she gets a clean bill of health, then it may be that she is eating too quickly and actually regurgitating, not vomiting. If the vomiting occurs soon after she eats this is probably the case. If you're feeding her separately anyway, consider getting her a puzzle feeder, a slow feeder, or some other kind of interactive method of feeding. The helps slow her down and also is a way of giving her some mental stimulation as well, since she will have to 'work' some to get to her food. You can also put a few large river rock type pebbles or a few glass nuggets in her regular dish to slow her down so she doesn't eat too quickly.
