Can I use amoxicillin to treat my dog's ear infection at home?

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | spayed | 5 years and 1 month old | 40 lbs

I have amoxicillin/clavulanate 600mg/5ml liquid will this help my dogs ear infection if so how much ?how often? Ty

Hello, sorry to hear about Bailey. It would only potentially help if her ear infection was due to bacteria. However. infections can also be caused by yeast and may not be susceptible to antibiotics. Additionally, this medication should also not be used if its expired and should only be used as recommended by your veterinarian. Additionally, ear infection are also treated with topical medications over oral medications to avoid the systemic side effects some antibiotics may have (nausea, decreased appetite, vomiting, or diarrhea). You should have Bailey evaluated by your veterinarian today to determine what type if ear infection she has and ensure there is nothing within the ear canal itself that could be causing this infection (foreign material such as grass, plants or parasites such as ear mites).
