My dog has a small bloody leg wound. Cream or vet visit needed?

my dog just hurt his leg with a small wound..a little bit blood.. Can I use Viaderm-k.c. cream on his wound? Or should I take him to see Vet?

Poor Pipi! I would gently clean the wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. I would avoid putting a human ointment on it, they typically contain ingredients that are not safe for dogs to ingest (dogs will lick wounds). To keep him from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. This presentation could be due to a trauma (bite wound) and/ or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be continued at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths (twice daily). I would recommend to shave fur around the wound (clippers are best as if you do it with scissors you may injury him) to be able to clean the area best as possible. After cleaning you can dry it up and apply any cream containing zinc oxide (like sudocream). Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. My dog has a sore on his left hind leg. He picks at it and it was pink and a bit bloody today. I first noticed it when I got home from school today. Should I treat it at all?
Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent further licking or chewing. This may be enough to allow for healing. Keep the area clean and dry. If it doesn't heal or if it grows or spreads, have Barnaby physically examined by your veterinarian. He may need antibiotics or further diagnostics, such as a fine needle aspirate or biopsy, if it is a lump or mass.

Bitch lurcher 5 year old 21.50kg has punctured her inside back leg on a branch on the ground. The wound isn't to large and doesn't need stitches wondering how best to clean it and treat it
Best way to clean is to use betadine scrub or chlorhexidine (hibiclens) scrub. You can get these at any pharmacy or even online. I would clean the wound twice a day, rinse thoroughly, dry and then apply an antibiotic cream/ointment. If she tries to lick the wound you will need to get her a cone collar to stop that behavior. Licking will cause infection. I would not cover the wound with a bandage. Be aware that if it is a true puncture wound it may have pushed bacteria deep inside the tissues which can cause serious side effects (ie: botulism and tetanus)....... Monitor her closely and if the wound starts to smell badly, get very swollen, has a lot of discharge, etc you need to get her to a vet ASAP. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Gently clean the area with a mild antibacterial soap or diluted Betadine solution. Dry thoroughly. You can apply a dab of triple antibiotic ointment daily. Place an e-collar (cone) on Zoya to prevent licking or chewing. If the spot doesn't begin to heal in a few days, have her examined by your veterinarian. Monitor for lethargy, discharge, swelling, odor or redness.

I don't recommend applying any ointment. Although quite safe on superficial wounds, dogs lick and ingest most of the topical ointment you apply and therefore should be used only under direct veterinary supervision and if there are no other appropriate options. Many human ointments contain multiple other ingredients which are not necessarily safe to be swallowed. Gently clean the wounds with warm water and antiseptic soap. Our dog has an open wound on his leg what should we do
First, consider seeking veterinary care since wounds can often be deeper than they appear and can get easily infected. 1. Clip the hair away from the wound using buzzing-type clippers, not scissors or a razor. This is so you can monitor the wound and keep the hair out of the way to help with healing and keeping it clean. 2. Disinfect the wound once with peroxide or a first aid chlorhexidine wound soap. Do not continue to use peroxide, or alcohol, as this will delay healing. 3. Apply an antibacterial ointment, such as Neosporin, twice daily. If needed to clean the wound, use a warm wet wash cloth to gently wipe away and dried fluid. 4. Prevent all licking or scratching of the wound by using an e-collar. Licking will delay healing and spread bacteria into the wound 5. Ideally, Miko should be examined by your veterinarian. He may not be painful now, but tomorrow he may be. The wound should be cleaned and flushed. Antibiotics and pain management may both be indicated. Monitor for bleeding, discharge, swelling, redness, odor, lethargy or lameness.
