My cat is sick, not eating, and not improving. When to see vet again?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 7 lbs

we took our cat in and the vet said she has the "flu" and a urinary infection. they gave her fluids/medication but her condition doesn't seem to be getting any better. she won't eat, only drinks a little bit of water, sleeps most of the time and i can tell she's getting weaker. this all just started about a few days ago. she was fine last week and now she's not doing so good and i'm a bit worried. IS THERE ANYTHING MORE WE CAN DO FOR HER? HOW LONG SHOULD WE WAIT UNTIL WE TAKE HER BACK IN?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry to hear Socks hasn't been feeling well. Based on what you are describing, I would recommend she be taken back in to be re-evaluated and have further diagnostics or treatment done. Cats can only go so long without eating before developing liver issues, so we are always concerned when cats aren't eating. I would recommend Socks be re-evaluated by her veterinarian, have any further necessary testing done (xrays, bloodwork, ultrasound) to determine what the underlying cause for her issue is, and start any treatment that may be needed to help her feeling back on track. Good luck!
