Will my cat be okay separated from others for college as an ESA?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Wirehair | Male | neutered | 4 years and 4 months old | 14 lbs

I have 3 cats. 2 are brothers that I've had for 10 years and the other one I got 4 years ago. I was told I need an ESA while I'm at college for my 3rd year (emotional support animal) and I thought about brining the one I've only had for four years. Would he be okay if I separated him from them? The older two don't really interact with him that much, so I thought it would be okay. I would love to bring all 3 but that's not possible :-(

Unless cats are very bonded they usually are happier in single cat households, so yes I think it would be a good idea to take the one that is not a true litter mate. I hope having him with you is helpful! Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
