What to do for a feral cat with a swollen, teary, closed eye?

Hi, there's a feral cat in my neighborhood, she's a female (and probably pregnant), i noticed a few days ago that she has a teary eye, today her eye is a little closed (no 3rd eyelid) and the under eye seems a little swollen. what could it be? Thank you

It could be that this poor kitty has an eye infection or she could have injured her eye. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it is should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would call a local cat or animal rescue to come and get her so they can get her the veterinary treatment she needs. Good luck, I hope this helps!

The eye is such an important and delicate structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Hi. One of the feral cats I feed has a eye infection. Her eye is shut, not very swollen, not oozing any pus. She doesn't seem to be in any pain. I can't afford to take her to the vet, and she won't let me near her. Is there anything I can do??
Hi, and thanks for your question. That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. Unfortunately there is not much you can effectively do back home without veterinary assistance. A picture of it would help to give you further advices. My cat had kittens 7 days ago and one of the kittens eyes are swollen. It is more swollen on bottom than on top. They have not opened their eyes yet.
Poor little kitten! I would have this kitten seen by a vet immediately. The kitten should have suffered an injury to her eye causing the swelling. The eye is such a delicate and important structure the any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. The vet can diagnose what is causing it's eye to swell so it can be treated.

Hello doctor! I have a request. Kindly help me out. Someone has beaten up my cat in her left eye. And she is in pain. She is unable to close her eyes. And there is a swelling. It seems as if someone has pulled her eyes out. She is a female cat.
Yes, it does look like she suffered some trauma to that eye. From the photo, it looks like the eye probably cannot be saved. Kitty should see a veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam. Hello! There are some stray cats in my neighborhood that I feed. One, I noticed the other day had mucous in the corner of her eye. She doesn't come around every day, but she came around this morning and the eye is now closed. I am worried about her.
It's always tough trying to deal with feral cats. The best option would be to take her to the vet (maybe they could spay her at the same time? Not all vets would be able to do that, but might be worth asking). The vet could sedate her, check out her eye, and vaccinate her for rabies at least. There is a risk of her biting, but we usually can take appropriate precautions to avoid this. If you do take her in, ask your vet ahead of time what preferences they have for type of carrier etc so that they have the best chance of successfully looking at her. It will probably end up costing you a decent amount of money to take her in, because of the extra time +/- sedation that will be required (plus costs for testing, vaccines, medications), so just be aware of that ahead of time. That said, to answer your question about care at home - she could have a viral eye infection (very very common in cats), or it could have gotten worse and become a bacterial infection or an ulcer. My cat accidentally escaped yesterday. She returned with what looks like a scratch near her lower eye lid. May a scratch on her eye. It is slightly swollen and tearing a bit. Advise?
The best thing to do is take her to a vet since it is so close to her eye. If the scratch affected the eye itself it can result in vision damage if it goes untreated. IF the swelling is just from the skin, then it can form an abscess and cause an infection to make her stop eating. You can try to gently wipe the area with a damp cloth to keep it clean. You can rinse the eye with saline eye drops to help with the discharge. You can apply a warm compress to help with swelling also until you can get her seen

Given that it has been infected for over a year, there may no longer be any sight in the eye, and it may be best to have the eye removed depending on the severity of the infection. It certainly will be very painful to her. I would not recommend using the leftover eye cream on the eye, and if you can trap her, I would take her into a vet as soon as possible to have her eye examined.

We found a kitten with swelling around the eye, covering the eye and sticks out about a half inch. WY wife wants to keep him. Is he in danger of losing his eye? We can't afford a vet, what should we do?
No home care options are appropriate here. This kitten needs emergency veterinary care immediately to reduce the pressure around the eye and reduce the pain and swelling he is suffering. HE will most likely needthe eye to be removed in order to prevent ongoing pain, it is highly unlikely any sight can be restored at this stage. Please consider surrendering him to the local humane society to get him the help he so desperately needs.

No, this cannot be treated at home at this point in time. I'm very concerned that Manley's eye is swollen shut. Any eye problem is an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. He needs to see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies.
