My cat's litter box smells sickly sweet. Could it be diabetes?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 years and 10 months old | 15 lbs

I have 3 cats and 3 large litter boxes. if I dont clean the boxes multiple times a day the whole house smells sickly sweet. I dont know if its the litter or something wrong with one of the cats?

This makes me suspicious that one of the cats may have diabetes. If any of the cats are drinking more water or urinating more frequently then that would increase my concerns of diabetes. Also, are any of the cats losing weight? I would encourage you to consider having your cats evaluated by your veterinarian soon. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

    Possible and common differentials for this presentation are diabetes mellitus, renal failure (eventually with urinary tract infection associated) , hyperthyroidism, liver problems. A check up urine analysis and a blood test would be the first steps to start investigating the problem and reach a diagnosis.
