My anxious cat has skin fungus and won't take meds. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 10 months old

My cat is always very scared and very anxious, and she is immune deficient which decreases her health and she gets a very bad dermal fungus on all her body especially her face and ears, I've treated her several times but everything I travel even if it is for a couple of days, whenever I'm back she always stays away hiding and she gets that fungal thing back, she doesn't want to take her medication and becomes more scared and anxious whenever I try to give it to her, I don't know what to do

I'm sorry that you are dealing with this with Doughnut. I would talk to your vet about suggestions for her anxiety. We know that anxiety and stress worsens the immune system, so it is worth finding a way to decrease Doughnut's anxiety. There are a number of options to try. I love Feliway diffusers for any anxiety. https://www.feliway.com/uk I have also had good luck with Rescue Remedy. http://www.bachflower.com/rescue-remedy-pets-bach-flower/ There are a large number of supplements and medications that can be used for anxiety, but I always try to limit the number of medications that I have to give to an anxious cat. I would also discuss with your vet if you can have Doughnut's medication compounded into a liquid or a treat to make it easier to give to her. Good luck! I hope that was helpful and gives you some ideas to try. Thanks for using PetCoach.
