My cat has diabetes. Can I start diabetic food before seeing the vet?

My cat has been diagnosed with diabetes, I'm seeing the vet on Monday , should I consider switching to a diabetic food off the shelf ahead of this appointment ? I'm concerned about starting on insulin and achieving a balance ! Even though I obviously don't have a balance at the moment . Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 3.2 lbs

At this point, I wouldn't make changes until you see your veterinarian. Some vets recommend a specific food for diabetic pets, depending on what brands are available in your area, and your vet may even recommend a prescription diet.
