My dog ate onion from a quesadilla. Should I be concerned or induce vomiting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 40 lbs

I think my dog had a small amount of onion in a quesadilla he stole from my plate. He’s 40lbs and I think he might have had 3 chunks in a pico de gallo that was inside. Should I induce vomiting?

Onions are a rare cause of illness but are associated with anemia and destruction of red blood cells in some sensitive dogs. I would not be overly concerned about one single incident with such a small amount of onion, but would advise against regular feeding of onion or garlic products!. Monitor over the next 2 weeks for any tiredness or weakness but this is very unlikely
