Is my dog's orange, wet, mucousy poop normal after bland diet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 8 lbs

My 5 yo male Morkie got into some wet cat food last week and had diarrhea from it for a couple days. We put him on a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice, with a small amount of plain greek yogurt mixed in and he didn't poop at all until today (no straining or attempts until today) and his poop was mucousy, very wet and orange. his behavior has not changed, he is still very energetic and has been eating happily, I'm just wondering if this color and consistency poop is okay. thanks!!!=

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This color and consistency of the stool would be ok as it may take a bit longer for the stools to normalize. As long as the stools do not turn bloody or black in color (which may be consistent with intestinal bleeding), and they continue to improve in consistency, Gabe is likely to be just fine. The stools can take a few days to normalize. You have been doing a good job! Good luck and have a great day!
