Does my cat know when I'm feeling down and try to comfort me?

Im not sure if this is the place to ask but do cats knows when something is up with you like you are down or messed up? I have a rescue cat who ive had since she was 4wks, now shes 7yrs and is still scared of everyone except me. I suffer from many mental illnesses and ive notice she's extra cuddly and smoochy when im in a down faze. Im just curious to know if she actually understand and is trying to comfort me or is it all in my head. Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 years and 7 months old

Pets absolutely can tell when something is different or tense in the environment or with their favored person. She can tell when you're not feeling well and she is trying to comfort you. You're lucky to have one another.
