Why is my female cat lethargic, not eating, and licking her private area?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | unspayed | 7 lbs

I have an 8year old Maine coon. The last few days she's been lethargic and just laying around. She hasn't eaten a lot and she keeps licking her "private area" ....what should I do?

Ebony may have a condition known as pyometra, especially if she is unspayed and having vaginal discharge. This is essentially an infection in the uterus, which causes lethargy and vomiting, and is very uncomfortable. This condition can be life threatening and requires immediate veterinary attention. Ebony's symptoms can also be due to a urinary tract infection or underlying medical condition. I recommend having her seen right away, there are emergency clinics open 24 hours in most towns/cities. I hope all is well!
