My dog has worms and is lethargic with no appetite. What should I do?

Deworming productions I recommend include Panacur and Drontal, both of which you can get from the vet. Panacur kills roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms, while Drontal kills those worms in addition to tapeworms. Drontal is a prescription only deworming treatment. Given that Prada Jean doesn't have an appetite and is very lethargic, I would have her seen by a vet first thing in the morning. The vet can diagnose what kind of worms she has in her stool and the best deworming medication for her. It's important for her to see a vet because she is having the other symptoms you are describing, she sounds unwell at the moment. Good luck, I hope this helps!

By law we can't prescribe medication for your pet without first examining him due to the VCPR (veterinary client patient relationship) act. However with that said, do you warmer is pretty much common place at your local pet store or feed store and instructions for use are usually written on the bottle based on your pets specific weight . Also keep in mind that there are numerous worms that your pet could have that are treated somewhat differently. Therefore the best recommendation for Lincoln is to either try a broad spectrum dewormer such as Pyrantel Palmoate or Fenbendazole or get Lincolns fecal tested by your veterinarian to determine which parasite is present so that you know which dewormer will work. Panacur is made to remove whipworms primarily. Drontal is formulated for the removal of roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms. However, your dog may also have a protozoal parasite that these medications won't cover. It's best to have your vet do a fecal examination to determine what type of parasites your dog may have before deworming him, so that dog can receive the correct medication for the parasites he may have.

Sorry to hear that Cookie is feeling so bad! If she is vomiting up worms, this is an indication that her worm burden within her GI tract is extremely high. She is need of a dewormer very badly. I would bring a fecal sample into a vet to have it analyzed to see which dewormer is required. If this isn't possible, I would treat with the most broad spectrum type you can find (Drontal Plus is a good choice). However, this still will not cover everything, which is why the analysis is truly the best way to deal with this issue.

My 15 week old puppy was diagnosed with roundworms. We gave him the meds our vet prescribed him and now he's very lethargic and is very wobbly and uninterested in his food. Is this normal? I'm just really worried about him.
Poor Kai! I'm sorry to hear that he isn't feeling well and I understand your concern! In some puppies with a significant burden of roundworms, vomiting and diarrhea can occur as a means of expelling the worms. This also can cause inappetence from nausea and mild lethargy as a result. Although rare, intussusception (essentially intestines that telescope into one another) can occur in cases of parasitism, which can cause vomiting, lethargy and inappetence. At this point, monitor Kai for changes tonight and try to tempt him to eat with boiled white meat chicken and white rice as a bland diet. If he is still lethargic and not eating by the morning, he should be examined by his vet. The greatest likelihood is simply that his body is working to expel the roundworms.

Hi there and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! Yes, Khaleesi is too young to receive vaccinations. Typically vaccines are first given when the puppy is 8 weeks old. The dewormer for roundworms (if it was pyrantel) is given orally once every 2 weeks 3-4 times. Sometimes puppies that have a roundworm infection may become lethargic. Lethargy in puppies can be caused by a variety of other medical conditions as well including viral infections. If Khaleesi is lethargic, not eating, and just not herself, my best advice is to have her seen by her veterinarian for an exam just to be sure there is nothing else more concerning going on that would cause or contribute to her lethargy. You should not feed your dog food that has worms in it. This would be a sign of decay, which could give your dog food poisoning. Please get fresh food for him (Kibble or canned). I would not eat this contaminated food either. Give him some boiled rice and boiled chicken today instead and observe him if he is still off-color tomorrow, then please take him to a veterinarian for an exam.

My dog was on antibiotics for heartworms. She kept vomiting, having diarrhea, and won't eat. So after the 2nd day I took her to the vet. They did a fecal and found that she has 3 different parasites. They told me to stop the antibiotics for a 3 days
Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. If Peggy has a large worm burden (lots of worms) then she likely feels sick and doesn't want to eat, and likely won't want to eat until the worms are gone. If the medication that your vet gave is a dewormer (typically a liquid called Panacur/Fenbendazole), then you can give it without food. This might clear out the worms and get Peggy eating again. If the medication is an antibiotic (Metronidazole, Amoxyclav), then this needs to be given with food. You can also talk to your vet about trying an anti-nausea medication to see if this helps with the appetite. If Peggy has abdominal pain, or is vomiting, please have her seen right away as high worm burdens can lead to a very life-threatening condition called intussusception. My 7 week old pit puppy has lost his appetite and has milky water diarrhea for 1 and a half days. Yesterday it had worms in it.
This puppy should be examined by a veterinarian. He obviously needs to be dewormed. A fecal test should be done to determine what types of worms he has so the appropriate dewormer can be used. A heavy worm burden can cause serious issues in puppies (anemia, intestinal blockage) and the fact that you are seeing the worms indicates a severe infestation.

Poor Athena! If she isn't eating or drinking, is vomiting, and acting lethargic, I would be very concerned that she has a more serious problem. Worms alone should not cause these symptoms. Parvo is a very common and serious issue in puppies this age that could cause the symptoms you're describing, or she could have some other issue such as an intestinal blockage, some other type of infection, or may have ingested something toxic. Regardless, the symptoms you describe are very concerning, so I would recommend taking her to the vet today for an exam. He/she can test her for parvo and may recommend blood work, x-rays, or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.

This looks like roundworms. You need to deworm this puppy immediately with pyrantel pamoate and febantel. They can be dewormed with this product as young as 2 weeks of age. I suggest you give a dose now and then again every 3 week until the puppy is at least 4 months old.
