My kitten has Feline Herpes Virus. Is constant sneezing normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Bobtail | Female | spayed | 4 months and 12 days old | 4.8 lbs

My kitten Asia has been sneezing constantly since I adopted her a month ago. She has been to the vet and they said she may have the Feline Herpes Virus. The thing is that she sneezes all the time but she is not lethargic, eats like crazy and plays like crazy. She doesn’t have runny eyes or a runny nose. Also when she sneezes it is very wet. She has sprayed me in the face quite a few times. Is this something I should be concerned with or maybe get a second opinion on? Thank you.

I agree with your vet! Herpes virus is a very common cause of sneezing (and that sneezing can be pretty noticeable!). The fact that she is eating and playing is great! This will likely go away on its own with time but if Asia does stop eating, becomes lethargic, or gets squinting eyes, head back to the vet as these could be signs of a secondary bacterial infection or other co-infection. Congrats on the new kitten!
