Why is my 9-month-old cat eating clumping litter? Pica or anemia?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 9 month old cat has been eating clumping litter. Is this a sign of anemia, pica, or what? And how much iron should my cat get daily to prevent anemia?

I would make sure you are feeding Floof a well balanced diet of cat food. If he is on this already then I would recommend trying the Breeze litter box. I would also not supplement any Iron unless you have had blood work performed that says Floof is anemic. You can get it here: This system uses pellets instead of litter. Thank you for using PetCoach.
