My cat ate dog antibiotics and is vomiting. Does he need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | 10 months and 13 days old

So my dog got spayed 3 days ago. Last night my cat got into her meds, and ate 6 dog antibiotics. He is vomiting every where. We don't have the money to take him to the vet right now because we had to pay $1115 for my dog to be spayed (she had pyometra). Please help!

It would be helpful to know the exact antibiotic and amount he ingested but if he is otherwise acting normal then you could withhold food for the day and see if the vomiting stops. If so, feed him a bland intestinal diet and add a probiotic to his food, Fortiflora or Proviable, and monitor him. If the vomiting continues and/or he becomes lethargic then he needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. He may need some fluids to prevent dehydration and an anti-vomiting medications. Your vet may also want to run blood work to check his organ function, depending on the amount and antibiotic that he ingested.
