Why does my older cat despise my new kitten? Does she know it's a cat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | spayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 11.4 lbs

I have 4 cats and 3 dogs all together. My 1 1/2 year old Maine Coon Mix does not like my 4 month old Calico Bobtail Mix at all but she gets along with the other two cats and the dogs. I was wondering if my Maine Coon Mix could not be liking my Calico Bobtail Mix because she doesn’t have a tail. Does my Maine Coon Mix know that the Calico Bobtail is a cat? I’m just trying to figure out why my 1 1/2 year old cat absolutely despised the kitten. Please help!!

The Maine coon does recognize use it as a cat despite the tail no being present. She may. It like her because she is a new kitten and has not accepted and gotten used to her being there and fighting for attention. The Maine coon naybsinply ser the kitten as a threat and be jealous
