My new 12-week-old shelter kitten sleeps, eats, sneezes. Is he okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 months and 8 days old | 2 lbs

I adopted a 12 week old kitten from a shelter and all he does is eat and sleep, doesn't seem to be very playful at all. Is this normal? He's been sneezing a lot and has been neutered.

It may be a sign of sickness such as respiratory infection since he is sneezing. This is common in kittens especially from a shelter. However if there is no congestion or runny eyes I would monitor for further changes before getting worried. Since he is eating well, he may just be a calm cat or just getting used to his new home and may be a little scared still. Often times they become more active and have more personality after being adjusted.
