Is it safe for cats to eat bacon grease, teriyaki jerky, or raw eggs?

Hello. Many cats develop a taste for human food, including unusual things like fruits, vegetables, & yes, chips. My cat goes nuts tor tortilla chips & bananas. But, they can be incredibly picky, too. You can feed cooked turkey, chicken & hamburger, but I would stay away from the sausage because of all the additional fats & salt it contains. A tiny taste is OK ( same with a tiny taste of the chips for your other cat ), & make sure they eat their regular cat food well. A treat now & then is fine. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

I wouldn't recommend frying the eggs but giving scrambled eggs in moderation is okay to add into their food. Fried eggs have excess amounts of grease and can lead to GI upset so I would avoid frying any foods that you are giving to your two cats. I hope this helps!

Hello, and thank you for using Boop by Petco. Small bits of cooked chicken can be a good treat for a cat, but I would stay away from the other foods you mentioned. None of those foods are dangerous, but cheese and milk can cause diarrhea and GI upset, and crackers & bread are not very nutritious for cats. Better to stick with little bits of cooked meat. Feeding cats raw eggs, peanut butter, popcorn and canned fish sound like old wives' tales with no scientific basis. :-) That said, it is fine to give Penelope a cooked egg 1-2 times per week in addition to a balanced commercial diet. It won't necessarily keep her healthier for longer, but it shouldn't do any harm.

You may notice that Leo has some gastrointestinal symptoms after eating the bacon grease. These would include vomiting, diarrhea, and inappetance. If Leo has these symptoms for more than 24 hours I would recommend taking him in to see you vet as he may need some medication to help stop the vomiting and/or clear up the diarrhea. 7-8. Even half of a teaspoon has the potential to cause pancreatitis. A few years ago, I dropped one small piece of potato on the floor that had been fried in oil, and my dog got ahold of it before I could stop her. She ended up with pancreatitis the next morning from it. Stop giving Reggie the bacon grease.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! I always warn owners about raw foods. Just like if we were to eat a raw egg food poisoning is possible from bacterial infections. Most commonly salmonella. As long as you are aware of the possibility of her getting a food borne pathogen, you can feed her a raw egg. I hope this helps!

People food is just that – food for people. Cats are obligate carnivores, and as such, have a delicate balance of protein, carbohydrates, fat, and vitamins and minerals that must be maintained. Cats should eat a balanced high quality diet in order to meet all of their nutritional needs. Unbalanced diets with vitamin/mineral imbalances risk a variety of health problems. Home cooked diets are not as commonly recommended, but are preferred by some cats and pet owners. If you opt to go down this road, a carefully crafted recipe by a specialist in veterinary nutrition should be used with proper vitamin and mineral supplementation. Even with a commercial diet, occasional treats of boiled white meat chicken, turkey, salmon, or tuna can be perfectly fine in small quantities.

It is okay to give your cat egg every once in a while as a treat, but should not be an every day event as eggs do have quite a bit of fat in them that could cause an upset stomach for a small 6 lb cat. Just like you or I, licking a bit of raw egg could be harmless (just like eating a bit of raw batter), however you can always be unlucky and get a nasty food poisoning. So, likely your kitty will be fine, and I would recommend just monitoring for now. If your cat starts vomiting, is sore, weak, having diarrhea, then it might be gastritis or food poisoning from the egg, which would require some medications and a vet visit to fix up. Just monitor for now though, as likely it will be fine. Best of luck!
