Hello, my family and i very recently adopted our puppy. Tonight i noticed what appeared to be a flea on the floor. It was black thin & jumped around. He is due to get the frontline on 1/27/18. Per North Shore’s vet, preventative care is to be done monthly. Chase is not scratching or biting excessively but he occasionally does. If he does have fleas we want to put an end to it ASAP before it gets worse. Would like to know what we should do and how can we get rid of the fleas if he does have more.

Congrats on your new puppy! They can be such a lovely addition to the family, but I'm sorry that Chase may have fleas. There are a couple of things you can do now for him. First I would give him Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes, and it's safe to give daily until it's time for his Frontline treatment. I'm not sure if he's already had a Frontline treatment previously, but if he hasn't not, it's fine to give him the Frontline treatment now. He's old enough for it, and it's close enough to the due date. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Good luck with him, I hope this helps!
