How to estimate my dog's weight from a photo without a scale?

Oh my goodness Tofy is so cute! She looks like she is a medium breed dog, and could be around 15-25 pounds in weight. Since I can't see her in person, I can't say for certain though. I hope this helps :-)

Hi there. I'm afraid it's not possible to tell what breed a puppy is just by looking at a photo, as coat color and length, general body shape, etc. often change a great deal as puppies grow. From what I can see, he looks like a medium-to-large breed of some sort. Possibly some kind of retriever mix, but that's just a guess. If you don't have any information about his parents, your best bet would be to have a DNA test such as a Wisdom panel done. This would give you more information about what breed (or mix of breeds) he is, which would allow you to make a more educated guess about his adult size and weight.

What a cute puppy! Looking at his age, current weight and build, I would guess somewhere between 40-50lbs. This is completely a guess however. There is a breed analysis called Wisdom Panel and it is fairly accurate on the adult size and is very accurate for the breeds detected. What a cutie! It's hard to tell from the picture, but she looks like she's at an ideal weight. Rather than tell you an exact number she should weigh, I think it's beneficial to explain what to look for to know that her body condition is ideal. At an ideal weight, you should be able to run your fingers over her sides and feel the indents between the ribs without pushing in. If you see her ribs, she is too thin. Looking down on her when she's standing, she should have a little indent in her waist. Monitor both of these things to make sure she maintains an ideal weight.

I am almost sure that my dog is healthy weight but I want to be 100%. How can I test if she is ideal weight if she is furry so it's hard to use body condition score? Her body looks like that:
Thank you for your question. From the photo of Joshie it does not appear that she is overweight. It can definitely be difficult to evaluate based on a photo though, especially in a furry dog like Joshie. Putting your hands onto her body can help you determine her body condition. You should feel a waist/area where he trunk slenders around her abdomen. You should be able to feel her ribs when you run your hands over her chest but they should have a small/thin layer of fat over them. When you run your hands under her, her belly should narrow/have a tuck. It's not possible to give you an accurate answer weight wise, different dog have different body shape and size, and so the weight is not the most important factor. Im needing help identifying breed.. Is SnowBall Husky ot Malamute?!
Its a little hard to gauge, as theres not a great deal of size reference here. Typically, huskys are a bit smaller and more "lean." It may help if you let us know her weight and age; under her pets info there is no age but it says she's 30 pounds, not sure thats accurate. My puppy is 6weeks old and weighs 8.9lbs - can u estimate how big she will get? Her mom is pompek, dad unknown
Cute puppy! I wonder if she has some herding breed in her with those white feet... At this age it's pretty tough to offer any kind of accurate guess. There's no perfect prediction, but a general guideline is that at 3 months of age (~12 weeks) puppies tend to be about 1/3 of their adult weight, and at 4 months of age (~16 weeks) they tend to be about 1/2 of their adult weight. So, if you hold off a few more weeks, once Luna is about 3 months old we can start to get a bit of a better idea! Hope that helps!

It is very difficult to assess in the picture as there are very few landmarks to judge relative size. He appears to be a medium-large breed and would likely be 25-40kg. I would err on the side of caution and feed a large breed puppy diet in order to optimise bone and joint development and allow for steady growth to his full potential
