Why is my pit bull drooling, losing weight, and can't open her mouth?

Poor pup! I'm sorry to hear that she's having this problem. There are a number of different things that could cause problems with closing the mouth and excessive drooling like this, so it's hard to say what might be wrong without being able to examine her. Some common possibilities would include an injury to the mouth or jaw, a tumor or infection in the mouth, or a neurologic problem such as a stroke. I would recommend taking your dog to the vet for an exam today, if possible, since some of these problems can be quite serious. Your vet can do a complete neurologic exam and may also sedate her so that a thorough oral exam can be performed as well. Once a diagnosis is made, he/she can talk to you about what treatment will be needed.

It sounds like Bully could have a problem with a tooth or other lesion in her mouth. I'm wondering if the shivering could be a sign of pain, or if she truly does have a fever it's possible she has a tooth root abscess or other oral infection. I'd recommend having a vet examine her mouth closely.

Poor Thor! I am concerned that he could have a problem with the nerve that innervates his tongue or he could have something like masticatory myositis which affects the muscles of the jaw. Usually with masticatory myositis, the dog will be painful when the mouth is fully opened. If the antibiotics and steroids do not help than consider taking him to a veterinary neurologist or internal medicine specialists for a work up and treatment. If he is not able to drink than your vet can give him subcutaneous fluids to help keep him hydrated.Hope he feels better soon!

This sounds like a serious problem, especially given the chronicity. A neurologic problem with the nerves to the face or a neuromuscular problem (facial muscles) may be options. Unfortunately there are many things that could be causing these symptoms. A good place to start is baseline bloodwork to check organ function along with a full neurologic exam by a vet. If your family vet is stumped then referral to a veterinary specialist (internist or neurologist) is indicated. More testing is needed in a case like this in order to know what is the best treatment. You should have Pete examined by your veterinarian. There may be periodontal disease, infection or foreign body causing the symptoms. Sedation may be required to examine him fully. If it is periodontal disease, a complete dental cleaning may be indicated. This will require anesthesia and Pete may need extractions.

It sounds like there are a couple of things going on with Scout at the moment. The drooling and blood from his mouth suggests a dental problem, which can be common in older dogs. It would also cause him to not eat as much, and he would eat the softened food because it won't hurt his teeth as much. As for the thick mucus from his eyes, that can be a sign of an eye infection. Finally the panting can be a sign of being hot or something more serious such as heart disease. It's very concerning to me that you think there is blood in his drool and his eating has decreased. You need to take him into the vet first thing in the morning, this is not something that can be treated at home or should be left untreated. The vet can treat his myriad of problems. Drooling can be a sign of nausea and this with a decreased activity level can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. From your description, it sounds as though Dee may have an oral tumor that may be extending into her esophagus with it's sausage shaped appearance. Unfortunately there is not much you can do at home apart from offering soft food or liquified food to make it easier for her to swallow.
