Why is my 10-year-old unspayed dog bleeding a month after heat?

What could be reason 10 year old female mixed breed Brindle Coonhound who has never had a litter or been fixed would be bleeding from female parts? She had a cycle a month or so ago

I would be very concerned that Shelby has a pyometra, which is an infection of the uterus. A pyometra is a medical emergency because it is fatal without treatment, and could be the cause of her bleeding from her vulva. Other causes include a UTI or bladder stones. Because a pyometra is a medical emergency and I can't see her in person to rule it in or out, I would take her into a vet immediately. The vet can do a physical exam, blood panel, urinalysis, and x-rays to diagnose if she has a pyometra or something else causing the bleeding. If she has a pyometra, spaying her is part of the recommended treatment. Please take her into a vet now. Good luck, I hope this helps!

I would have your vet take a look at her to see where the blood is coming from. The urethra is also very closely associated with the vagina so she could be leaking blood from her bladder. She could also be suffering from a serious infection called a pyometra which needs to be addressed ASAP. Your vet will also be able to tell if she is/was pregnant. There isn’t much you can do at home. If she is bleeding, further diagnostics need to be done. She likely needs some meds and additional treatment. I hope this helps.

It could be that Gypsy is in heat, given that her last true one was in April. It would be the right time for her to go into heat again. The puppy may not be interested in her because he hasn't reached sexual maturity yet. It could also be a sign of a pyometra. This is when the uterus becomes infected, and this is life threatening. Leaving a pyometra untreated is fatal, so the best thing to do it take her into a vet right away. The vet can diagnose if she is experiencing a true heat or if she has a pyometra. If she does have a pyometra, spaying her is part of the recommended treatment. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Bleeding from the vulva in a spayed dog is not normal. Possible causes include bleeding from the urinary tract (UTI, urinary bladder stones, tumor) or bleeding from the vaginal vault (tumor or infection). Some bleeding/clotting disorders can also be causing the blood you see. I would recommend that Isabella be checked out by a veterinarian. After a thorough physical and vaginal exam, your vet may recommend bloodwork, clotting times, x-rays, or ultrasound.

My German Shepherd who is 13yrs old came to heat couple of weeks back but from a day or two she has been bleeding a lot and we are worried
If her bleeding seems heavier than usual it's possible that she has developed a uterine infection (pyometra). This is fairly common in older dogs and is considered an emergency. It's also possible that the blood is coming from a vaginal growth or from her urinary tract due to a urinary tract infection. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian as soon as you can. They might recommend checking some blood work for signs of infection and x-rays or an ultrasound to look at the uterus and bladder.

She does seem old but it isn't impossible. If she has gone a long time without a heat cycle then I would certainly have your vet take a look at her to ensure there isn't something else going on like a tumor in the uterus or a pyometra (an infection in the uterus) or a severe urinary tract infection. Your vet will be able to recommend the best course of action to ensure she is healthy. I hope this helps!

I am very concerned that Willow may have pyometra (an infection in her uterus). This type of infection can be life-threatening and typically requires surgery to remove the uterus which is the source of the infection. I would recommend taking her to your vet right away so she can be evaluated for this disease.

I would have Hennessey seen by a vet immediately. I would be very concerned that this heavy bleeding, lethargy, and bloating is caused by a pyometra. A pyometra is a serous infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. Using a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and x-rays, the vet can diagnose if she does have a pyometra and can treat her for it. Should she have one, spaying her is part of the recommended treatment. Please take Hennessey into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her now.

Yes, this can be due to a problem in her uterus. It could normal but since it’s been so long since she bled before there could be an infection or mass in the uterus or vagina. I recommend an exam and they may want to do an X-ray to make sure her uterus is normal size. I do recommend spaying her if you can so they can remove and examine the uterus and prevent her from getting a uterine infection or cancer. Also unspayed females have a higher incidence of breast cancer so that’s another reason for having her spayed soon. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care Lily.

Hi I have a concern because my dog has been like 3 month in heat but is weird because the bleeding stop and then start bleeding again in 2 or 3 weeks
This is very very concerning. She could have a urinary tract infection which can be treated with antibiotics. Shakira could also have a uterine infection or hormonal problem. Because there is a likelyhood of uterine infection which can cause sepsis and serious complications, she needs to be seen by a pet doctor now. If this is a uterine infection she will need surgery. Please find a veterinarian and have her examined.

Hello, sorry to hear about Hero. She may be experiencing other causes of a bleeding which may be associated with a UTI or bladder stones. Additionally, she may also bleed if she has an infection of her uterus. would recommend having her evaluated by a veterinarian to ensure she does not have a uterus infection.
