Why is my cat losing weight after reducing wet food due to diarrhea?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | 15 lbs

My orange tabby I adopted from a shelter in Seattle that came from Missouri is obsessed with the wet food. I used to feed it too him every day but I noticed diarrhea and stinky poops, so I cut it down and I haven't noticed any. He still eats his dry food and plays, but he has lost a lot of weight. Is this normal? I have a vet appt scheduled I just wanted to ask here first

As long as he is getting the calories somewhere his weight should be stable despite what type of food. Dry food generally makes them gain weight. Your vet can check a stool sample and his weight to see if anything else is going on
