Is a Poodle puppy's brain aneurysm risk inherited or a random defect?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I was thinking of adopting a Poodle puppy, however their is a concern. The breeder does extensive genetic health testing, but I found out the Grandfather died of a brain aneurysm at age six. Their has not been any other dogs that suffered from this in his family. Are these kinds of things genetic, or random birth defects. Thank you, have a great day

Congential conditions (things that are inherited) can cause aneurysms, but I can't find any evidence that aneurysms themselves are inherited. It's good that the breeders have done extensive genetic health testing on their dams and sires, and if the grandfather was the only dog to suffer it, I would not be too concerned. I hope this helps!
