My 4-month-old kitten has diarrhea. Is it from eating other cat food?

My 4months old kitty has developed diahrea over the last week.he has been vet checked and dewormed and first shot s. I have had him for 18days. He has been sampling my other cats food.should I be worried

There could be a couple of reasons why Rowan is having diarrhea. The change in diet (sampling the other cat's food) could be causing it. Kittens need to be dewormed regularly to prevent intestinal worms, so if he's only had one treatment with deworming medication, then worms could be the problem. Finally, it could be due to a GI illness, eating something rotten, or a foreign body. Given he's been having diarrhea over the last week, I would take him into the vet for exam. Diarrhea continuing longer than 24 hours should always being examined by a vet. The vet can diagnose the cause of the diarrhea and can treat him for it. I would take him into the vet in the morning. I am sorry to hear about your kitten! Unfortunately, GI parasites (such as roundworms, hookworms, giardia, and coccidia) are very common in kittens as a cause of diarrhea. Some of these can be treated with over the counter dewormer such as pyrantel (round and hook worms) but the others require prescription medication for treatment. It can also be difficult to dose the over the counter medication in a tiny kitten. I would recommend an examination by your veterinarian (Bring a stool sample with you) so they can check for these parasites. In the meantime, you can try picking up a probiotic from your vet or the pet store which will often help decrease the severity of diarrhea. Fortiflora by purina is the one we use most commonly (you can get that brand at your vet's office or online).

9 week old kitten. Had been dewormed twice before we took her home last week. Having diarrhea. Only like wet food and people food. Won't eat dry kitten food. How do we stop the diarrhea? Thanks.
Even though Coco has been dewormed twice she could still have intestinal parasites like coccidia that would not be susceptible to standard dewormers. Other causes of diarrhea include infections or food sensitivities. I would recommend seeing a vet for a fecal analysis. If it is normal you can discuss diet changes that could help, like increasing fiber or trying a limited ingredient diet.

I have recently gotten 2 very young kittens-they are about 4-5 weeks old. (I thought mother had abandoned them.) they are about 4-5 weeks old. One has had one reg. bowel movement but for the most part bothhave diarrhea. I am feeding them with KMR kit
I would deworm them with Panacur. Intestinal worms are very common in kittens, causing diarrhea. You can get Panacur from your vets office. It’s a three day course of treatment that you will need to give again two weeks after the first ends. This kills all the worms. They should then be dewormed every two weeks until they are three months old, then monthly until six months of age, after which they should be dewormed every three months. If the Panacur doesn’t help with the diarrhea, I would take them into the vet for a health check. As a side note, they are now old enough for a kitten formulated food. I would start weaning them onto one. I hope this helps!

X is very cute! A sudden change in diet can cause diarrhea, so changing his food may add to the diarrhea. In kittens, a common cause of diarrhea is intestinal worms. I would give him a deworming treatment such as Panacur, which you can get from the vet. It's a three day course of treatment, and he will need a second course of treatment two weeks after the first ends to kill all the worms. If this doesn't help with the diarrhea or he's up to date on his deworming treatments, then I would have him seen by a vet. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

She's adorable! I would be a little more concerned that she might have intestinal parasites or another disease causing her diarrhea. I would recommend seeing a veterinarian if you have not taken her in already. They can check a stool sample and she may be old enough for vaccines at this point. If there does not seem to be a medical issue you could try seeing how she does on just wet or just dry food - kittens sometimes do better on one vs. the other.

I rescued a kitten about ten ago hes about eleven weeks old, & hes recently started pooping himself several times daily. Hes still eating & playing. The only issue is his poop is runny. What should i do for this?
I'm glad to hear that Shadow is still eating and active despite his diarrhea. In a young kitten, parasites are one of the most common causes of diarrhea, but other causes could include viruses, an upset stomach due to sudden diet changes, among others. Ideally, I recommend taking Shadow to his vet for a physical exam and fecal flotation test to check for parasites. You can also give him deworming medication, such as pyrantel pamoate (available at most pet stores), which may treat roundworms and hookworms. It is important to note that not every parasite is treated by every dewormer, so it would be best to test his stool to determine if/which parasite(s) are present. You can also try offering a bit of boiled white meat chicken as a bland diet for a few days, then gradually mix the bland diet with Shadow's normal kitten food over another 5-7 days. Avoid offering any treats, milk, or table foods, as these could exacerbate his diarrhea. If he becomes lethargic, stops eating and drinking, or

It could be that Ferdinand is suffering from intestinal worms. Those are very common in kittens, and if he is not up to date on his deworming treatments, I would pick one up for him. You will have to deworming him again in two weeks to make sure that all the worms are killed. If he is up to date on his deworming treatments, it could be he ate something rotten outside that upset his stomach when you weren't looking. In that case, I will give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 8-12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

The most common reason for diarrhea in kittens is worms. I suspect the vet will give them a general dewormer at their exam. I suggest you stop any milk replacer or milk products if you are using them as they can also cause diarrhea. At 5 weeks they can eat solid foods and don't need milk. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could absolutely be the cause. It could be that that diet is causing him dietary indiscretion. It would be best to avoid him getting into the other cat's diet. I would be concerned that there may be something else causing her to vomit and have diarrhea. Canned food could cause some diarrhea but I wouldn't expect vomiting for several days as well. And while the formula could be the culprit it still sounds like she needs treatment at this point. At her age I would worry about intestinal parasites, infections or even ingestion of a foreign object. I would recommend seeing a veterinarian for an examination. Young kittens can become dehydrated or hypoglycemic quickly, sonthe sooner you can see a vet the better.
