Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 lbs
My 10 year old cat with IBD has had a large area near his tail and hip that is warm to touch with thinned coat for the past few weeks. In the beginning he was extremely itchy all over, so I changed his diet assuming he's developed a new food allergy, gave him a colloidal bath, changed his probiotic and added some holistic remedies. The itchiness has gone and he's returned to his playful self but the warmness remains. I've been treating it as a hot spot but not sure that it is. Any advice?

If there was an infection in the area that had some resultant inflammation, heat that originated in the area may take a while to completely go away. As long as the itchiness has resolved and the area itself is looking better, I would be optimistic that you are heading in the correct direction. However, if the symptoms head in the wrong direction or their is a recurrence, you should consider obtaining systemic antibiotics to combat a bacterial infection on the skin's surface. Hope this makes sense.
