Many people advice me ro avoid salt for my pup.i haven't introduced any salty food yet to my pup. Should i avoid salt for my pup.he is 8 weeks old

Yes, do not give Rackoon any salt at all, no matter what his age. He does not need salt, and too much salt causes salt toxicity in dogs. He should never have any salty foods. Also make sure to avoid giving him fatty foods. Fatty foods cause pancreatitis in dogs, which is very serious and can be fatal. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Neither of these should be given in any significant quantity. In some dog foods, there will be small amounts of sugars and salts. However, any excessive amount of either of these can result in illnesses. Salt in large amounts is especially dangerous, as this can result in kidney issues that can be difficult to resolve.

Hello. It is sometimes very difficult to ascertain all nutritional information, especially with pet treats. Generally, a lot of salt is not added to processed dog foods or treats as pets do not crave salt like we do. All you would need to do is mix some extra water into his food for the next day or so. Encourage drinking with no salt added broth, but I would not be too concerned. Salt toxicity is a very rare condition, & a one-time overindulgence on a salty treat would not harm the body in the long run. Yana will be just fine. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

How do I create a dietary plan for my 8-week old OES. Using the raw food diet.
I personally never recommend giving a raw food diet. There is no scientific proof is it beneficial to dogs, and there is a risk of poisoning from E.coli and Salmonella due to the raw meat. In addition, growing puppies need higher amounts of protein, calcium, and calories than adult dogs to grow properly, and a raw food diet will not meet those needs. This is a great question, and thanks for taking such good care of Chloe! Salt is added to most dog food to improve the flavor, and it is not common to have variable amounts depending on the food. We do not recommend salt restricted foods unless a dog is already in Congestive Heart Failure, at the recommendation of your veterinarian. What is most important for Chloe is that you are feeding a high quality diet that helps her have a healthy coat and normal, formed feces. Hope this helps!

Dogs have a very wide salt tolerance and should only need to be restricted if they develop clinical kidney or blood pressure issues where they cannot self regulate their levels. Some salt is necessary, a minimum amount of 0.06% sodium / 0.09% chloride is recommended in dry matter of food for adult dogs (and 5times this for growing dogs). Poisoning is not expected until 4000mg/kg body weight

Poor Rascal! I recommend having him skip one meal to allow his stomach time to settle. Continue to offer him fresh water, and if you notice vomiting/diarrhea/ lack of appetite or decreased energy, I recommend seeing your vet. Sometimes unusual or new foods (especially salty foods like pretzels) can be upsetting to a dog's stomach, and it's important to get vet care for Rascal if you notice theses signs to help prevent the risk of dehydration and worsening of his symptoms. What are human foods that can make my puppy healthy?
The best thing to make Moonlight healthy is to feed him only puppy food. Many human foods are toxic to dogs, and the rest should not be part of their daily diet. I would feed him a puppy food. Best of luck.

My 20ish lb dog ate some salt from an open packet on the sidewalk during our walk. Is this cause for concern?
No she/he should be fine if it was just salt. It takes a lot of salt ingestion to cause any immediate concerns in pets (salt intoxication). So if it was only a small amount you don't have anything to worry about. Just make sure to offer her/him some water and access to water at all times, so if she/he needs to they can rebalance their body by diluting out the salt. Also I would refrain from giving him/her any people foods that are high in salt for the next 24 hrs, only regular dog food. If by chance your pet did ingest a large amount of salt then watch out for signs of trouble which include ataxia (drunken walk), panting, mental dullness, and vomiting. If seen then it is best to take him/her to your vet immediately for treatment.

What is bad to give to dogs in kidney failure?
Avoid high salt treats like cheese, deli meats, and dog treats. Keeping to foods and treats that have less than 1 mg sodium per calorie is recommended. Low sodium treats include fruits and vegetables (but be sure to avoid grapes, raisins, onions, and garlic!).
