My dog is losing weight, very thirsty, and hungry. Is he sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 12 years old

Fieny was 23-25 lb... about 3 months ago he started losing weight. He weighs about 12 lbs (bony) now, very thirsty and hungry. I put him on all natural diabetic drops, high protein diet a month ago. He doesn't seem to be getting nor worse. I can not afford to take him to the Vets for testing. I am hoping you can help me make him better... the first picture below is recent & the one in the chair is what he used to look like.

Unfortunately without doing some basic tests it will be impossible to help you, he might be suffering from hyperthyroidism, lymphoma or other cancer. a blood test would be the very least that needs to be done. If money is an issue please contact a cat charity in your area of living, they can help with costs of treatment in many cases. Many vets also have payment plans, and there is also a credit company that will land you money toward vet bills ( https://www.carecredit.com/vetmed/) .
