My cat still has worms after deworming. What dewormer should I use?

I dewormed my cat a couple months ago with a pill my vet gave me. I gave her one, then another 2 weeks later. Do not know the name. She had a worm today in her poop. What dewormer should I use this go round?

From the picture you provided, it looks like Lucy could have roundworms. I recommend giving her either Panacur or Drontal. Both kill roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms, and Drontal will also kill tapeworms. You can get both from your vet's office. As with last time, you should get her one deworming treatment now and then another two weeks later. At that, in order to keep the worms away, she will need to be dewormed every three months. What you're seeing is most likely tapeworms. Tapeworms are intestinal parasites of the cat and dog. They belong to a different family than hookworms and roundworms, which are the other common intestinal parasites of dogs and cats. Fleas are the intermediate host for tapeworms. Definitely make sure to treat all four of them for worms, and give them a second deworming treatment after the first one. That's because it will take at least two rounds of treatment in order to kill all the worms. The first kills the adults present at the time of the first deworming, and the second kills the adults who had not yet hatched at the time of the first treatment. After that, they should all be dewormed every three months. Yes, I would clean the house as well, give it a really good scrub, especially the floors and litter box. Be sure to wear gloves when cleaning the litter box, and practice good hygiene. I recommend using Panacur, it's an excellent deworming treatment.

That looks like a roundworm. You need to deworm a cat every two weeks when they have worms due to the life cycle of the worm. The deworming treatment will not kill eggs. So the first treatment kills the adult worms present while the second one kills the worms that had not yet hatched at the time of the first deworming. Give Max a deworming treatment now, another in two weeks, and then another two weeks after that to be safe.

Depending on the parasite, deworming typically​requires two (or more) treatments. The second treatment should be administered 2-3 weeks after the first. Submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose the specific parasites so the appropriate medication can be dispensed and to confirm clearance. If there are still parasites, repeat the deworming and then place Olivia on a monthly preventative such as HeartGard or Sentinel.

Hello. Dallas may have tapeworms. This can be confirmed by your veterinarian if you submit a stool sample or segments of the worms for examination. The dewormer you used does not take care of them. You will need a medication that has either [Panacur](https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/panacur-oral-suspension) (fenbendazole) or [Drontal for Cats](https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/drontal-tablets-for-cats?rrec=true) (praziquantel)to eliminate tapeworms. Tractor Supply, Petco & other major pet retailers should carry these products for cats. Just follow all label directions. If tapeworms are diagnosed, you will also need to treat Dallas and his environment for fleas since that is how tapeworms are spread. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Hello. Since you wormed her for the tapeworms, it is a good idea to also worm for roundworms & hookworms. You should be able to easily find this at PetSmart, just look for anything that indicates it has pyrantel pamoate in it & just follow the label directions. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Hi Jo! I'm sorry Billie is quite sick! If she is vomiting worms, it sounds like she has a heavy burden of them, and I would give her a dose of Panacur now. I highly recommend Panacur, it's a great deworming treatment. I would give her another dose in two weeks, then deworm her after another month, then every three months from there. Make sure all the pets in your home are up to date on their deworming treatments as well, as they can pass them back and forth between each other.

My cat is taking dewormer and when she had a bowel movement this morning, I saw these worms in her poop. I attached a picture. What type of worm is it? I want to make sure the dewormer I'm giving her will get rid of it. The wormer is pyrantel pamoate
From the picture these look to be tapeworm segments. Often you will see them dried on the rear end too. Pyrantel is a great broad spectrum dewormer, but it doesn’t kill tapeworm. Droncit ( praziquantel) kills tapeworm. I always recommend a full fecal exam looking for microscopic eggs as animals who have parasites often have more than one kind. Tapeworm can cause gastrointestinal signs if she has a high enough worm burden. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon! Thank you for using Pet Coach.

These do indeed look like tapeworm segments, so BV will definitely need to be treated again. Normally, to make sure that all life stages of the tapeworms are killed, the initial deworming dose needs to be repeated in 14 days - so if this wasn't done the last time she was treated, this could by why the problem has recurred. She may also simply have become re-infected, either from fleas or from eating dead rodents or other animals if she hunts outdoors. I would recommend calling your vet to let them know that you are seeing tapeworm segments again - they may be able to have you come and pick up another dose of dewormer for her, rather than requiring another exam since she was just seen for this problem two months ago.

Yes, Casper could have worms and it could be tapeworms which are not treated by panacur. Tapeworms require praziquantel to kill, which is available by prescription only from the vet. Kittens need to be dewormed every month until they are six months of age, and it could be that Casper has a heavy burden of worms and needs another deworming treatment now. Once he reaches six months of age, he should be dewormed every three months. I would take him and a sample of his feces into the vet so the vet can treat him.
