When should I switch my puppy from puppy food to adult dog food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkipoo | Female | spayed | 4 months and 26 days old | 4.5 lbs

My yorkiepoo is a few days short of being 5 months old and I was wondering when I'm supposed to switch her food to the "adult life stage". She's about 3.5 lbs if weight plays a factor.

Great question! Mila should be on puppy food until she is 12 months old. After that, she will then be old enough for an adult dog food. Weight doesn't play a factor, age is the determination for the life stage switch. I hope this helps!

No, she will still need good quality puppy food for small to medium sized dogs, Feed the puppy food until she is approximately 6 months old, then slowly transition her to food for young dogs of the size her breed will be.
