Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 17 years and 6 months old
Hi. I've got a disturbing question that i need to be answered until i killed myself. I found my precious dog floating dead in a small river that runs through our yard. He was 18yo, mixed breed. Is it possible that he didn't slip, but actually died from old age and happenes to be near the water? Or that he slipped and got a heart attack? Is there any possibility that he didn't suffer drowning? I pulled him put still warm but long gone.I'm already traumatized so please answer honestly.. Anything..

First off, I'm very sorry that you suddenly lost Timis! That is so horrible for you, and I can imagine that his loss has upset you deeply. Finding him that way would have been just terrible for you as well. Without seeing him in person, there's no way I can say what caused him to pass away, but you cannot blame yourself for it. He was an older dog, and certainly there is a possibility that his heart simply stopped and he fell into the river because he was near the water. In that case, he might have already been dead when he fell in the river and didn't suffer from drowning. Sometimes dogs pass away suddenly, and that could be the case with him given his advanced age. There is always a possibility that he didn't drown. While it is horrible that you lost him so suddenly and found him in such a distressing way, I recommend focusing on the time you had with him when he was alive. Trying to figure out how he died will only upset you more, and having good memories of him to focus on will help you grieve his loss. You can also bury his body in your yard if you'd like, and make a gravestone to mark where he lays. That would give you a place to visit him and remember the good times you had with him. I'd also recommend framing a special picture you have of him, and putting it in a place where you can see it. It will be a reminder to you of what a wonderful dog he was, and you will know that a part of him will be with you always. Whenever we lose a beloved animal, it does seem that they take a piece of your heart with them, but the grief will ease over time. You may always be sad when you think of them, but know he undoubtedly loved you as much as you loved him. Look after yourself, and if you need any further help, do not hesitate to contact us again. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.
