If I do not restrict water and have it out in a bowl all day my 8 week old puppy is peeing every few minutes. He knows the outside pee spot and will go there if I take him out in time, but he doesnt seem to have any control over just letting it go in the house. For 2 days I restricted his water intake and spread out 25 ounces (he is 5.8kg) and this helps control it a bit better but then I was worried restrciting it wasnt a good idea. Is it possible he has a UTI or is it just down to how young?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is definitely normal for puppies to urinate more frequently than adult dogs. Every few minutes is excessive. Some puppies are just fascinated by water and drink constantly regardless of thirst. The 25 ounces is about double what Wallace needs per day, dog’s typically drink 1-2 ounces per pound. You should have him seen by a vet to rule out a UTI, kidney disease, or very rare forms of diabetes. I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you have!

If he is otherwise normal you can wait until tomorrow to see it it gets better but it may be due to a urinary infection. I recommend a veterinary exam and they will check a urinalysis for bacteria, blood and crystals. If the urine is normal they may recommend a blood panel to check Spark's kidney and other values. With prompt treatment he should be better quickly. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Spark.

It could be that Rookie has a UTI or bladder stones. He definitely does need an appointment with the vet to treat this problem. In the meantime, feed him canned food and add water to it, and make sure he drinks plenty of water to flush the bladder. Best of luck.
