Congrats on your new dog, but I'm sorry Elma's eating habits have changed! I'm not sure if she's eating more or less, but typically when a dog's eating habits change, a visit to the vet is recommended. That's because a change in eating habits can signal a medical illness, and the vet is the best person to diagnose if something like that is happening. I would make an appointment for her for tomorrow. Good luck!

I am so sorry to hear about your dog! With a sudden change in behavior like this I would recommend having her examined by a vet to ensure there isn't a medical cause. Occasionally we can have diseases that cause a change in appetite/behavior such as this, so it is best to have her examined to ensure there isn't a medical treatment to resolve the issue!

If it is a new food Honey has never had before, that could be the problem. It could also be she's not feeling well at the moment. Given this just started, I'd keep an eye on her for now. Should this behavior continue over the next 24 hours, I'd start to get worried and have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

It's a good idea to first have her examined by a vet to see if there is a medical issue for her change in appetite. The vet may recommend checking for intestinal parasites or performing lab work or x-rays to be complete. Then they can discuss the medical or behavioral issue and possible solutions for her diet.

Hi. Poor baby :( That definitely is concerning especially for a puppy. There are obviously alot of causes for not eating. It could range from parasites, to dietary indiscretions, to viral infection (parvo), and many other illnesses. I would recommend getting Jax seen tomorrow at your vet or the ER because puppies can get dehydrated, hypoglycemic and decompensate quickly. They will do an exam, a parvo test, and a fecal to start most likely. Good luck

If Nemmy is acting normally without any vomiting or diarrhea, there is likely no reason for concern at this point. You can wait until tomorrow to see if she is willing to eat as ravenously as she normally does. However, if she is lethargic, or showing signs of vomiting or diarrhea, it may be worth a trip to the vet today to assure that nothing more serious is at play. You can try tempting her to eat with a bit of a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice. I hope that all goes well!

What should I do if my dog stops eating food? I switched to a different food and he still only eat very little. His condition is okay and his poo is solid.
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Wookon. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. There is likely an underlying reason that he is having a decreased appetite. He could have a bad tooth, an upset stomach (even with normal bowel movements) or be experiencing pain elsewhere in his body. His veterinarian will perform a thorough examination and then make treatment or diagnostic recommendations. In the meantime, you can try offering warm water in the kibble or some warmed canned food. Congrats on your new family member! Gracie has gone through a lot of transitions in the last few days, including a food change. Dogs, and especially puppies, often get upset stomach with a rapid diet change. Puppies can also get gastrointestinal parasites that cause diarrhea and vomiting. You could try switching her to a bland diet of boiled low-fat chicken breast and rice for about 5 days and then gradually, over the next 5 days, switch her to her new long-term puppy food. However if the vomiting or diarrhea continues, she should be seen by your vet to rule out parasites or a more serious problem as puppies can quickly become dehydrated.

If only Sydney could talk! It could be related to her teething. You may try soaking the kibble in warm water until it is softer. See if she will eat it that way. Its also possible you are feeding her too much. Puppies eat a lot while they are rapidly growing but then the growth slows down and they don't need as many calories (although they are still growing). If soaking the kibble doesn't help or if she begins to show any signs of illness, I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian and checked for parasites. A decrease in appetite can indicate a medical problem, so it's best to have a vet examine her to make sure nothing is wrong. She actually doesn't appear to be underweight based on the pictures shown. I'd have to examine her to be sure, but the biggest indication that she is not underweight is the fact that she appears to have well-developed muscles. Some dogs tend to be naturally lean and put more weight on their muscles rather than their ribs, or belly. If I was concerned that she was underweight, then I would first want to rule-out a disease, or parasite causing her to lose or not gain weight. It's best to have a veterinarian evaluate her, so you can ensure she's healthy and ensure that you are not going to feed her unnecessarily. Dog obesity is a big problem in the U.S., which means that the average person thinks a fat dog is at ideal weight; and a dog with an ideal body condition, or a lean body condition is thought to be starving.
